# Why Does Claude Sometimes Ignore a File I Just Replaced in a Project?

I replaced a reference document in a Claude Project, but responses still seem to rely on details from the older version. I’ve tried starting a new chat in the project, so I’m wondering whether the **project knowledge files** update immediately or whether there’s a separate refresh step.

Has anyone found a reliable way to confirm which version Claude is actually using? I’m especially interested in whether file names, cached context, or the way a new conversation is started can affect this.
