# Why Does My Wireless Mouse Stutter When I Connect a USB 3 External Drive?

My wireless mouse works normally until I connect an external SSD to the USB 3 port next to its receiver. During large file transfers, the pointer starts skipping. The mouse uses a USB receiver, not Bluetooth.

### What I’ve checked

- A fresh mouse battery makes no difference.
- The laptop’s touchpad stays responsive during the same transfer.
- Moving the receiver to the opposite side of the laptop seems to help.
- The SSD stays connected and transfers files without errors.

Could this be USB 3 radio interference, or should I still investigate power delivery and drivers? I’d like a way to distinguish those possibilities before buying a new hub or mouse.

Would testing with the laptop disconnected from 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi tell me anything useful, or does the mouse receiver need to be tested separately?
