# Why Does My Android Phone Show 5G but Download More Slowly Than on LTE?

My phone often shows a 5G icon, yet downloads can feel slower than they do when I switch back to LTE. I notice it most in busy areas, though it doesn’t happen every time.

Does the 5G indicator simply mean the phone is connected to a 5G network, rather than that it has a strong or fast connection? I’m curious what factors—such as [network congestion](https://www.mindstick.com/news/1727/network-congestion-need-to-be-solved-in-india-with-the-launch-of-5g-network) or signal conditions—could explain the difference.
