# Can a Football Player Be Offside Without Touching the Ball?

I’m trying to understand an offside decision where the attacker was in an offside position but never touched the pass. The referee still stopped play, and the explanation was that the player affected the defender.

What kinds of movement or positioning count as interfering with an opponent in that situation? I know being in an **offside position** by itself is not always an offence, but I’m unsure where the line is when the player doesn’t make contact with the ball.
