# Why Does My Phone Lose So Much Battery Overnight With the Screen Off?

My phone can lose 15–20% of its charge overnight even when I leave it untouched with the screen off. The drain is inconsistent: some nights it barely moves, while on others it drops enough that I have to charge before leaving home.

Which clues help narrow this down to an app running in the background, weak cellular reception, or a battery that’s starting to wear out? I’d like to know what to check before resorting to a factory reset or replacing the battery.
