# Can Claude Projects Instructions Conflict With Instructions in an Individual Chat?

I’m trying to use Claude Projects for recurring work, with shared guidance in the project and more specific directions in each chat. Sometimes the response seems to follow one set of directions and overlook the other.

How does Claude handle **Claude Projects instructions** when they disagree with a prompt in the current conversation? I’m also curious whether starting a fresh chat inside the same project changes which instructions Claude pays attention to.
