# Why Do Strawberries Grow Mold So Quickly After I Bring Them Home?

Strawberries sometimes look fine at the store but develop soft spots or visible mold within a day or two at home. I usually keep them in the fridge, so I’m wondering whether the problem starts before I buy them or whether my storage habits are making it worse.

Does moisture trapped in the container matter more than temperature? I’d also like to know whether washing the berries right away is a bad idea, and how to tell when one spoiled berry means the rest should be thrown out. What storage routine has actually worked for other people?
