# Why Does My Phone Hotspot Connect to a Laptop but Have No Internet?

My laptop connects to my phone’s hotspot and shows it as connected, but websites won’t load. The phone itself has mobile data, and restarting both devices hasn’t helped.

What would you check first to figure out whether the problem is with the phone’s hotspot settings, the laptop’s network configuration, or my mobile carrier? I’d also like to know whether this behaves differently on Android and iPhone, or when connecting another device.
