# Why Do Cucumbers Turn Soft in the Fridge Before They Look Spoiled?

I’ll put firm cucumbers in the refrigerator, and a few days later they feel limp or develop soft patches even though there’s no obvious mold. Other vegetables stored nearby seem fine.

Is this mostly about temperature, moisture, or how the cucumbers are packaged? I’m curious whether people see a difference between storing them loose, wrapped, or in a crisper drawer—and how you tell when a soft cucumber is no longer worth using.
