# Why Do Perplexity’s Citations Sometimes Not Support the Exact Claim?

I’ve noticed that an answer can include a credible-looking source link, but the linked page doesn’t seem to back up the sentence it’s attached to. The source may cover the same general subject while leaving out the specific detail.

How does Perplexity decide which sources to cite, and what affects source-to-claim matching? I’m also curious whether this is more likely with recent news, paywalled pages, or information that appears in several sources.
