# Why Does Google Index a Different URL When My Canonical Tag Looks Correct?

I have a set of product pages with [canonical tags](https://www.mindstick.com/interview/34454/what-are-canonical-tags) pointing to the versions I want indexed. The tags look correct in the page source, but Google is still showing a different URL in search results.

Could internal links, redirects, sitemap entries, or other signals be outweighing the canonical tag? I’m trying to work out which checks are most useful when Google chooses its own canonical, especially for pages with tracking parameters or near-duplicate content.
