# How Did Linguistic Reorganisation Change India’s State Map?

I’ve been reading about the States Reorganisation Act of 1956, but accounts often jump straight from the law to the map we recognize today. What changed for people and regional politics in between?

How much of the reorganisation followed language, and where did administrative concerns or competing claims shape the boundaries instead? I’m especially interested in whether creating states around linguistic identity eased tensions or simply moved them into new political arenas.
