# Why Does Windows Say “No Internet” When Some Apps Still Work?

My Windows laptop sometimes labels the connection “No internet,” but a few apps continue loading new content while the browser fails or takes ages. It happens on both home Wi-Fi and a [phone hotspot](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/1730/create-a-wi-fi-hotspot-with-an-android-phone), so I’m not sure whether Windows is misreading the connection or something is interfering with specific traffic.

What would you check first to narrow this down? I’d like to understand what the **Windows network status** message actually tests, and how to tell a DNS problem from a flaky connection or an app-specific issue.
