# How Do Manufacturers Account for Thermal Expansion During Long CNC Runs?

On a long CNC production run, parts can start measuring differently even though the program and cutting tools haven’t changed. I’m wondering how much machine and tool temperature contributes compared with material changes or ordinary measurement variation.

## What’s being compensated for?

Do shops usually rely on temperature sensors and control software, periodic part checks, or adjustments made by the operator? I’m particularly interested in how manufacturers keep dimensions consistent over several hours without stopping production after every batch.
