# Why Can’t I Transfer My eSIM When Switching to a New Phone?

I’m moving from one phone to another and expected the eSIM transfer to be a simple setup step. Instead, the new phone either can’t find the old plan or asks me to contact my carrier. Both devices are on Wi-Fi, and the old phone still has service.

Is this usually a carrier restriction, a device compatibility issue, or something that depends on how the original eSIM was activated? I’d like to know what information to check before I remove the plan from the old phone and risk losing access altogether.
