# Why Does Windows Limit My 144 Hz Monitor to 60 Hz Through a USB-C Dock?

My external monitor supports 144 Hz and reaches that refresh rate when connected directly to my laptop, but through my USB-C dock Windows only offers 60 Hz. The dock also carries power, keyboard, and mouse connections, so I’d prefer not to bypass it unless that’s the real limitation.

Which part of this setup usually determines the available refresh rate: the dock’s video bandwidth, the laptop’s USB-C port, the cable, or the monitor connection? If you’ve dealt with this, what model details should I check before replacing hardware?
