# How Can a Small Factory Track Repeat Defects Without Slowing Production?

In a small manufacturing setup, defects are recorded inconsistently: one shift may write a note in a logbook, while another tells the supervisor verbally. That makes it difficult to see whether the same machine, material batch, or process step is causing repeat problems.

What defect-tracking approach has worked for smaller teams without adding a lot of paperwork or requiring a full manufacturing execution system? I’m especially interested in practical ways to make shift-to-shift records useful.
