# How much scrutiny do parliamentary committees give Indian bills?

I understand that a bill may be referred to a [parliamentary standing committee](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/117421/how-much-influence-do-parliamentary-standing-committees-have-over-a-bill), but I’m not clear on how often that happens or what the committee can change. Does committee review meaningfully shape a bill, or is it mainly a chance to collect comments before Parliament votes?

I’d be interested in how referral decisions are made and whether the public can follow the committee’s recommendations.
