# How should I assess the permissions of a Claude MCP connector?

I’m looking at connecting Claude to an [MCP server](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/306994/building-your-first-mcp-server-for-claude-a-step-by-step-beginners-guide) so it can work with tools or information outside the chat. Before enabling one, how can I tell what data the connector can read, what actions it can take, and whether those permissions can be limited?

What should I check in the server’s documentation or configuration, especially if it comes from a third party rather than a tool I manage myself?
