# What changes when Gemini becomes the default Android assistant?

I’m considering setting Gemini as the [default assistant](https://www.mindstick.com/news/3790/microsoft-copilot-can-be-set-as-default-assistant-app-on-android) on my [Android phone](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/94381/why-does-my-android-phone-hang-suddenly-and-cant-be-open), but I’m unsure what that changes beyond opening the Gemini app with a voice command. Does it replace the usual assistant for tasks like questions about what’s on screen, reminders, or controlling phone features?

For people who have switched, which everyday actions feel different, and are there any tasks you still have to handle through a separate app?
