# Can Gemini compare two long policy documents and surface the meaningful changes?

I’m looking for a way to compare two lengthy policy documents without treating every wording change as equally important. If Gemini can work with both files in a Google Workspace setup, could it identify changed obligations, dates or definitions and point me to the relevant passages?

I’d be interested in real examples of **comparing policy documents with Gemini**, including where it missed a subtle change or gave a summary that needed too much checking. Does the experience differ much between Docs and PDF files?

Yes. Gemini can compare two policy documents and help identify additions, removals, and wording changes that may affect how a policy works. The useful part is asking it to focus on **substantive policy changes**, not just differences in phrasing.

If your Gemini version lets you attach both files, upload them together and ask for a side-by-side policy comparison. Request the affected section or page references, a plain-language explanation of each change, and a note when a change appears purely editorial. For example:

> Compare these two policy documents. List substantive changes by section, explain their practical effect, and distinguish them from formatting or wording edits. Include page or section references, and flag anything you cannot verify.

For very long documents, check that both files were processed in full. If the comparison seems incomplete, compare matching sections or provide the long documents in smaller sections. Gemini can miss a qualification buried in a paragraph or overstate the significance of a small edit, so verify its citations against the source files—especially before making legal or compliance decisions.
