# When GPT cites a source, how can I tell whether it supports the claim?

Sometimes GPT gives a confident answer with a link or a named report, but the cited page only discusses the general topic—it doesn’t seem to back the specific sentence. That makes it hard to know whether I’m looking at a weak source, a bad summary or a citation that was never checked closely.

What’s a sensible way to verify this without spending longer checking every answer than it would take to research the question myself? I’m interested in approaches for **checking AI citations against source text**, especially when a response includes several claims and links.
