# Are Indian cities prepared for longer and more intense heatwaves?

Each summer, extreme heat puts pressure on electricity demand, public health services, and workers who spend much of the day outdoors. Yet the experience can vary sharply between neighborhoods, especially where shade, reliable power, and access to cooling are limited.

What should a practical city heat-action plan prioritize: early warnings, cooling shelters, changes to outdoor work hours, better building design, or something else? I’d also like to hear which measures have made a visible difference in Indian cities.
