Some major policy decisions are announced before the people affected by them have much chance to comment. In 2026, should India require a public consultation period before significant new laws or policy changes are introduced?

A formal process could give affected communities, researchers and businesses time to flag practical problems. But consultation can also become a box-ticking exercise or delay urgent action.
