# Should Election Manifestos Include Clear Cost Estimates for Promises?

Election manifestos can promise new benefits, infrastructure projects, or expanded public services, but voters may not be told what those commitments could cost or how a government plans to pay for them.

Should parties publish [cost estimates](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/301032/important-steps-and-procedures-to-consider-for-cost-estimates-and-proposals-in-single-large-payment) alongside major promises before polling? I’m curious what level of detail would be useful to voters without turning a manifesto into a full government budget—and who should check whether the estimates are credible.
