# How Can Readers Check Claims Spreading During a War?

During an active war, dramatic videos and urgent claims can spread across social media before news organizations have verified them. Some footage is old, taken somewhere else, or shared without enough context.

What are the most useful checks an ordinary reader can make before reposting a claim?
