# What happens to my data when a Docker container is removed?

I’m cleaning up old environments and noticed that simply running `docker rm` seems to disappear data I expected to persist. If I spin up a new container from the same image later, where exactly does that lost data go, and how can I make sure it survives [container deletion](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/34540/ai)?
