# Is India on track to meet its 2026 interim production targets under the National Green Hydrogen Mission?

As part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, India targeted setting up 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen production capacity per annum alongside 60-100 GW of dedicated renewable power. By 2026, early SIGHT scheme subsidies aim to bring the first wave of commercial electrolyser plants online.

## Electrolyser Manufacturing Bottlenecks

While domestic bidding for SIGHT manufacturing incentives was strong, developers face high capital costs and supply shortages for key stack components like proton-exchange membranes (PEM) and rare earth catalysts.

## Offtake Commitments

Fertilizer refineries and steel mills have been slow to sign long-term binding off-take agreements due to the current price gap between grey and green hydrogen.

What policy modifications or tariff protections could accelerate commercial adoption among heavy industrial power users this year?
