Why did India's education minister resign, and what is the 'cockroach' protest movement everyone is talking about? ## Answers ### Answer by Vivek Jha The question seems to combine two separate stories. In the widely reported 2024 controversy over the NEET-UG exam, India’s Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan faced calls to resign after allegations of exam irregularities and paper leaks. He did not resign at that time; he acknowledged that some problems had occurred and said the government would investigate. The “cockroach” phrase points to a different place and period: Hong Kong’s 2019 pro-democracy protests. Some police and pro-Beijing voices used “cockroaches” as a demeaning label for protesters, especially those dressed in black. Some demonstrators then reclaimed the word as a badge of defiance. It was a label associated with that protest movement, not the name of an Indian campaign connected to the education minister. So, if the reference is to Dharmendra Pradhan and the NEET-UG controversy, the resignation claim and the Hong Kong “cockroach” label are not part of the same event. A specific recent article or post may be referring to another minister or a newer development. --- Original Source: https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/117171/why-did-india-s-education-minister-resign-and-what-is-the-cockroach-protest-movement-everyone-is-talking-about Copyright © MindStick Software Pvt.
