Organic and [paid search](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/304947/seo-vs-paid-search-which-is-best-for-your-business) refer to two types of listings on search results pages (SERPs), on Google or Bing, among others.

**Organic search results** are the results that have no fee and are ranked by the search engine in a natural way. Such outcomes are established based on such factors as [content](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12427/4-types-of-blog-phrases-that-keep-content-readers-engaged) [quality](https://www.mindstick.com/interview/329/what-is-the-quality-assurance-in-testing), relevance, key words, back links, [structure](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/302153/structured-vs-unstructured-data-key-differences) of the web site, and general [search engine optimization](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12862/best-search-engine-optimization-techniques-for-your-seo-ranking) (Search Engine Optimization). [Companies](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/331387/is-erp-suitable-for-only-big-companies) are not paying directly for organic search results clicks. They would rather take time and effort to make their websites more optimal so that they would rank higher. Organic results are typically placed under the paid ones and are not labelled with an Ad. They are more likely to develop long-term credibility and trust as they seem to be more truthful and less prejudiced by the users.

[**Pay-per-Click**](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/12652/pay-per-click) **(PPC)** advertisements are the search results that are placed at the top or bottom of the search results. Companies can bid on certain words and pay for every click made by a [customer](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/324748/customer-journey) on their advertisement. These are identified as being Ad or Sponsored. Paid search is a quick way of exposure and can be considered in the case of new [products](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2358/apple-will-use-us-made-semiconductors-in-its-products-to-lessen-its-dependency-on-asia) or services, or special time offers.

**In short,** organic is dependent on the [SEO](https://www.mindstick.com/services/search-engine-optimization) work and the long-term plan, whereas paid is dependent on the advertisement budget and offers more immediate and short-term exposure.
