Modern technology is the advanced tools, systems. It is innovation that has developed to improve human life and efficiency. It has many fields which include [artificial intelligence](https://www.mindstick.com/services/artificial-intelligence), [biotechnology](https://www.mindstick.com/news/4118/isro-partners-with-department-of-biotechnology-on-space-biotech), information technology, renewable energy and robotics. These [technologies](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/11429/tools-and-technologies-to-learn-in-2017) have transformed [communication](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/126321/5-fails-and-fixes-of-the-office-communication), education, healthcare industry by making processes faster and more accurate.

The Internet, smartphones, and automation are primary examples of modern technology. It offers convenience and global connectivity, but it also raises concerns about job loss, privacy and digital dependence.

In modern technology, a part, VPN ([Virtual Private Network](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/44290/virtual-private-network-and-protocols)) helps to secure a device by building an encrypted connection between a user’s device and a remote server operated by the VPN provider.

This connection, often referred to as a “tunnel,” allows data to travel safely across public networks like the [Internet](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/115627/what-are-the-major-benefits-and-risks-of-integrating-internet-of-things-devices), protecting it from interception or unauthorised access.

When a user connects to a VPN, their Internet traffic is first routed through the VPN server before reaching its intended destination. This process of connecting to a VPN hides the user’s IP address, making their online activities appear to be somewhere else, as they select from the VPN server’s location rather than their actual one. This not only enhances privacy but also gives access to any content or services which is restricted in that particular region.

The initial mechanism that ensures [data privacy](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/114100/how-is-the-tech-industry-responding-to-the-new-federal-data-privacy-regulations) in a VPN is encryption. VPNs use protocols such as OpenVPN, IKEv2/IPSec, or WireGuard to secure and encrypt the data transmitted between the VPN server and the user’s device. Encryption converts the data into unreadable code, ensuring that even if hackers try to get it, [Internet service](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2190/starlink-a-private-aeroplane-internet-service-is-launched-by-spacex) providers (ISPs) or even government agencies intercept the data, they cannot find its contents.

In addition, VPNs prevent data tracking and profiling by masking users’ online identities. Many VPN services also employ no-logs policies, which means they do not store information about users’ browsing activities, which further enhances confidentiality.
