# Twitter verification badge removed suddenly – bug?

## Answers

Many [users](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2452/500-million-whatsapp-users-whose-data-was-put-up-for-sale) get shocked when their [Twitter blue checkmark (verification badge)](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/332583/which-one-is-better-twitter-paid-verification-or-meta-verified) is suddenly removed. Sometimes they think it’s a bug, but most of the time it’s not. Twitter can remove verification for many reasons. First, if you change your username or [profile](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/225/profile-in-asp-dot-net) picture often, their system might remove the badge.

Second, if you break Twitter [rules](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/43901/blackjack-rules) like spreading fake [news](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/95901/advantage-of-reading-news-from-online-sources), abusive tweets, spam, etc. they can take it back. Third, if you stop being active for a long time, Twitter may also remove it.

Recently, [Twitter also made verification a paid service](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/85072/what-does-blue-tick-on-twitter-means) (Twitter Blue). So if you don’t pay or cancel the [subscription](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2897/a-11-99-monthly-subscription-service-called-meta-was-introduced-to-offer-impersonation-prevention), you lose it. Some [people](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2295/more-people-need-to-monitor-this-crucial-metric-for-heart-health) also face technical glitches, but that’s rare. If you suddenly lost your badge, check your [email](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/44267/how-to-protect-from-getting-spam-emails), sometimes Twitter sends a reason. If not, then check if your subscription is still valid or if your [account](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/33699/how-tech-is-disrupting-the-accounting-world) broke some rules. If you believe it’s a bug, you can raise a ticket to Twitter support, but honestly they don’t reply fast. So, mostly it’s about rules or subscription, not really a bug.\
