# Is Reddit free to use, or do I need to pay for some features?

[Reddit](https://www.mindstick.com/news/4400/reddit-introduces-new-moderation-and-analytics-tools-to-enhance-user-engagement) is mostly free for everyone. We can join subreddits, read posts, comment, upvote or downvote without paying. It is like a big [playground](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/126281/how-to-make-the-most-of-used-tires-in-a-playground) where many [groups](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/34159/nabard-has-signed-a-pact-with-which-bank-to-promote-joint-liability-groups-jlgs-in-bengal) are talking about many topics.

But there is also something called Reddit [Premium](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/23199/digital-personal-server-the-premium-web-server). This is not free. [If someone](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/99016/is-there-any-device-that-can-detect-if-someone-opens-your-backpack) pays for it every month, then they get extra things. For example, no ads on their feed, and they also get coins to give [awards](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/32248/padma-awards-2017-announced-by-whom) to other posts. Coins are like small gifts to say thank you for a good post. Premium [people](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2295/more-people-need-to-monitor-this-crucial-metric-for-heart-health) also get a special badge.

So normal Reddit is totally free. We can use it every day, post memes, read [stories](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/story/1643/creatures-from-hindu-mythology-and-the-stories-behind), or ask questions. Only if we want fancy stuff like coins or ad-free, then we need to pay.

It is kind of like games. Many games are free to play, but if we want extra skins or [characters](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/42112/who-is-the-originator-of-avengers-characters), then we buy. Reddit is same. We don’t have to pay to enjoy it, but some people like to pay for extra [features](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/337503/improving-web-accessibility-with-html5-features).

So the answer is: yes Reddit is free, but some features are paid.\
