[War](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/88252/how-technology-is-redefining-war) is very scary, not just because of bombs and guns, but also because of what it does to [people](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2295/more-people-need-to-monitor-this-crucial-metric-for-heart-health)’s minds. [Soldiers](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/88254/the-future-of-robotic-soldiers) who go to war see so many terrible things. They see people dying, their [friends](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/269450/15-ways-to-make-extra-money) getting hurt, and they are always under stress. Because of this, many soldiers feel scared, [sad](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/300906/what-is-smiling-depression), and sometimes angry even after the war is over. They can have nightmares, or they may remember the bad scenes again and again. This is called trauma. Some soldiers even feel guilty that they survived when their friends did not.

[Civilians](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/40066/name-the-topmost-civilian-award-in-america), which means normal people who are not in the army, also suffer a lot. Their homes are destroyed, families get separated, and many lose their loved ones. [Kids](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/300585/bow-legs-in-kids) in war areas cannot go to [school](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/311528/advantages-of-an-ib-boarding-school-in-the-same-city) and they live in fear all the time. They hear bomb sounds, gunshots, and sometimes don’t even get enough [food](https://www.mindstick.com/startup/19/from-attur-to-australia-this-d2c-brand-makes-traditional-superfoods-available-to-global-tastes) or clean water. This makes them very anxious and weak inside. Even if the war ends, they still feel afraid of loud noises or sudden changes.

Both soldiers and civilians may find it hard to live a normal life after war. They might feel [unsafe](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/115/unsafe-code-in-c-sharp) even in peaceful places. War also makes people angry or hopeless. Some never recover fully, and it can last for their whole life. So war is not just about fighting with weapons, it is also about destroying people’s peace of mind and filling them with fear and sadness.\
