Rising [nationalism](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/113541/is-nationalism-always-right-wing) tends to have a [negative impact](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/86161/how-ai-content-has-its-negative-impact-in-website-ranking) on [international cooperation](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/115513/what-is-the-impact-of-nationalism-on-international-cooperation-and-foreign-policies) and peace.

Nationalism often prioritizes a country's own interests over [international collaboration](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/114159/how-are-recent-space-exploration-milestones-impacting-international-collaboration) and can lead to protectionist policies, decreased willingness to engage in multilateral agreements, and [increased tensions](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/42831/what-did-harriet-beecher-stowe-do-that-increased-tensions-between-the-north-and-the-south) with other nations. As they say, being a patriot is good, but being a blind patriot and following the nation ideologies blindly could be detrimental for peace.

It can fuel "us versus them" mentality, like we saw recently during [India Pakistan war](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/88118/how-the-india-pakistan-war-boosted-india-s-national-security-and-unity), making it harder to achieve cooperation on global [issues like climate](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/111572/how-do-countries-cooperate-on-global-issues-like-climate-change) change, trade, or security. This can lead to strained [relations between countries](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/107859/explain-the-impact-of-recent-diplomatic-relations-between-countries) and potentially increase the risk of conflict.

Nationalist policies can also lead to domestic [political polarization](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/111818/how-is-social-media-influencing-political-polarization) and international isolation if taken to extremes. In contrast, international cooperation often requires compromise and a willingness to consider the interests of other nations.

Managing the balance between protecting national interests and engaging in necessary international cooperation is crucial for maintaining peace and addressing [global challenges.](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/114658/what-are-the-main-challenges-to-global-security-in-the-21st-century)
