***TWITTER’S LEGALITY IN INDIA***

***Twitter now known as ‘X’,** after being ordered by Indian Government to delete [multiple](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/2323/handling-multiple-submit-button-in-asp-dot-net-mvc) [accounts](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2580/meta-removes-900-chinese-fake-accounts-including-accounts-of-indian-firm-cyberroot-risk-advisory) and tweets that violated Indian Laws, Twitter commenced a lawsuit against the Government of India, in July’2022. Twitter is arguing that the Indian Laws are very constraining and [challenging](https://www.mindstick.com/news/2240/in-a-u-s-lawsuit-challenging-facebook-s-virtual-reality-agreement-mark-zuckerberg-will-testify). Hence, Twitter is legal in India but on some agreed conditions.*

- ***BANNING ORDERS:** Accounts, posts and tweets criticizing* [*Narendra Modi*](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/story/1162/some-extraordinary-facts-about-narendra-mod) *has been banned by the orders of Indian Government.*
- ***BLOCKING REQUESTS:** Twitter has been requested to block all the contents and accounts containing threats for the [employees](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/85697/most-important-onboarding-strategies-for-office-employees) of Twitter in India.*
- ***STAND AGAINST MANIPULATION:** Twitter has suspended all the accounts involved in manipulation and malware.*
- ***GOADING AND VIOLENCE:** Twitter has taken severe actions on accounts goading/ provoking and violence among the public.*
- ***RESTRICTIVE INDIAN LAWS:** Twitter argued that Indian Laws are too restrictive and challenging to block contents which violates freedom of speech.*

*Despite being under restrictive Indian Laws, still 25.5 million users managed their twitter accounts and gained 3rd highest position in number of twitter users worldwide as of 2024.*
