If you are [having trouble](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/50651/what-to-do-when-having-trouble-moving-contents-from-android-device-to-your-iphone-8) [sending or receiving](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/109699/how-to-restore-outlook-not-sending-or-receiving-emails) messages on WhatsApp, several [potential issues](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/159471/how-does-c-plus-plus-support-multiple-inheritance-and-what-are-potential-issues-associated-with-it) could be causing this problem.

### 1. Check Your Internet Connection

- **Wi-Fi/Data Connection**: Ensure you have a stable [internet connection](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/23135/how-to-check-for-an-active-internet-connection-on-iphone-sdk). Try switching between Wi-Fi and [mobile data](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/33586/how-can-i-monitor-for-changes-to-mobile-data-being-enabled-on-android) to see if the issue persists.
- **Airplane Mode**: Make sure [your phone](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/108742/what-to-do-if-your-phone-won-t-charge) is not in airplane mode.

### 2. Verify WhatsApp Server Status

- **Server Issues**: Sometimes WhatsApp servers might be down. You can check the status on websites like Downdetector or WhatsApp's official [Twitter account](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/115873/twitter-account-has-been-restricted-for-automated-activity).

### 3. Update WhatsApp

- **App Updates**: Ensure you are using the [latest version](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/159680/how-can-i-install-the-latest-version-of-sql-server) of WhatsApp. Go to your device’s app store and check for updates.

### 4. Check Phone Date and Time Settings

- **Correct Date and Time**: Make sure your phone’s date and time settings are correct. An incorrect date or time can prevent WhatsApp from [working properly](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/85595/how-to-troubleshoot-when-your-floating-pond-fountain-is-not-working-properly).

   - On Android: Go to Settings > System > Date & time and enable "Automatic date & time".
   - On iOS: Go to Settings > General > Date & Time and enable "Set Automatically".

### Detailed Steps for Android:

**Internet Connection**:

- Ensure Wi-Fi or mobile data is on.
- Try toggling airplane mode off and on.

**[Clear Cache](https://www.mindstick.com/forum/157336/how-to-clear-cache-in-asp-dot-net-mvc)**:

- Go to Settings > Apps > WhatsApp > Storage > Clear Cache.

**App Permissions**:

- Go to Settings > Apps > WhatsApp > Permissions and grant all necessary permissions.

### Detailed Steps for iOS:

**Internet Connection**:

- Ensure Wi-Fi or mobile data is on.
- Try toggling airplane mode off and on.

**App Permissions**:

- Go to Settings > WhatsApp and ensure all permissions (e.g., contacts, background app refresh) are enabled.
