## 1. Check the basics:

**Wired mice:** Ensure the cable is secure and undamaged. Try a different [USB](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/23141/usb-3-2-standard-and-everything-you-need-to-know) port.

**Wireless mice:** Replace [batteries](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/85594/future-of-electric-vehicle-batteries-challenges-and-advancements) or charge. Check the receiver/dongle connection. If [Bluetooth](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/view/81815/now-hacking-via-bluetooth-technology-arrives-in-devices), ensure it's paired and enabled.

## 2. Restart and refresh:

**Restart your** [**computer**](https://www.mindstick.com/category/article/computers-and-laptops)**:** This reloads drivers and refreshes connections.

**Restart the mouse:** Wireless mice may have a [dedicated](https://answers.mindstick.com/blog/280/top-10-dedicated-smtp-server-services-for-protecting-sender-reputation) button. For wired, unplug and replug.

## 3. Driver dance:

**Update drivers:** Outdated drivers can cause glitches. Open Device Manager, find your mouse under "Mice and other pointing devices," right-click and choose "Update driver."

**Reinstall drivers:** Uninstall the driver from Device Manager, restart [your computer](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/13023/choosing-the-best-power-cord-for-your-computer-a-layman-s-guide), and [Windows](https://www.mindstick.com/blog/303649/journey-of-how-to-make-a-computer-operating-system) will automatically reinstall it.

## 4. Cleanliness is next to godliness:

**Clean the mouse:** Dust and debris can clog sensors. For wired mice, gently wipe the bottom with a damp cloth. Wireless mice might have removable sensors for easier cleaning.

**Clean the surface:** Uneven or dirty surfaces can interfere with tracking. Try a different mousepad or [clean your](https://yourviews.mindstick.com/story/4026/alternatives-of-toothbrush-to-clean-your-teeth) desk.

## 5. If all else fails:

**Test on another computer:** This helps diagnose hardware issues. If it works elsewhere, the problem lies with your original system.

**Seek [professional](https://www.mindstick.com/articles/13107/scaling-the-gap-between-a-graduate-and-a-professional) help:** If nothing works, a technician can diagnose and [fix hardware issues](https://answers.mindstick.com/qa/94581/can-apple-ios-upgrades-fix-hardware-issues-on-iphones).
