What Is the Difference Between CBD Oil and Cream?

Anonymous User1895 18-Oct-2019

We are experiencing the CBD equivalent of the gold rush right now. As CBD usage has exploded around the world, so has the number of CBD companies out there. With so many different companies offering CBD products, it should come as no surprise that we are being blessed with ever more innovative ways of getting our CBD.

Despite all of the new and exciting forms, CBD is now available in, for some, you just can’t beat the classics. Two of the most traditional CBD-based products are CBD oil and CBD cream. These two have proved to be amongst the most enduringly popular methods of taking CBD. But what precisely are CBD oil and CBD cream? And what is the difference between the two? Read on to find out.

What Is CBD Oil?

CBD oil was one of the very first ways that CBD was available. As such, it is probably the most common form of CBD. Almost every CBD company will offer CBD oil within its range.

CBD oil is an edible oil infused with CBD. It typically comes in a bottle with a pipette topper. Usually, one full topper is one dose. You ingest CBD oil orally with a simple process. Using the topper, you suck up a portion of CBD and squirt the drops under your tongue. Hold the drops there for a couple of seconds and then swallow.

Due to taking the oil sublingually with drops under your tongue, the CBD is infused at a rapid rate, with fast-acting effects. As well as being fast-acting, it is also one of the simplest ways of getting your CBD hit. No frills involved – drip some CBD in your mouth and away you go.

One common criticism of CBD oil is the taste. A lot of people are not fans of the bitter flavor, which lingers on the mouth afterward. Companies have a great way around this, with most offering flavored oils. You can get your CBD oil in pretty much any flavor you can think of.

One great thing about CBD oil is its versatility. With it being an edible liquid, you can add it to your cooking or drinks to instantly infuse them with a little CBD goodness. Some oils are also suitable for mixing with e-liquids to make your own CBD vape juice.

What Is CBD Cream?

CBD cream is different from CBD oil but no less popular. Also known as a CBD topical, CBD cream is a cream infused with CBD that you rub on your affected body area. The body absorbs the topical, providing relief in the area it was applied. You must wash the area first before applying CBD cream. Doing so allows for maximum effect.

The significant benefit of CBD cream is that it allows you to target specific areas of the body. There is no other form of CBD which offers this. If, for example, you are troubled with pain in your left knee and this is the only reason you want to use CBD, a topical is an excellent option that will solely concentrate on that issue. For this reason, the most frequent usage of CBD cream is for muscle or joint pains, arthritis, or something along those lines.

Creams are typically fast-acting due to being quickly absorbed through the skin. They come in a variety of forms, such as moisturizing ointments and muscle gels. There are even topicals designed to be rubbed in your temples to promote sleep and reduce stress.

Companies are innovating with CBD cream in all sorts of ways. Often, you will find brands will add additional ingredients to spice up their topicals. This could be adding in an aroma to mixing their CBD with another element that also offers potential health benefits, such as magnesium.

Final Thoughts on CBD Oils vs. CBD Creams

So, there you have it: CBD oil and CBD cream explained. They are two of the most common and popular forms of CBD. The main differences between the two are:

  • How they are taken: CBD oil is ingested orally, and CBD cream is rubbed onto the body.
  • What conditions they are best suited for: CBD topicals are used to target one specific problem in an area of the body, such as muscle pain. In contrast, CBD oil has the potential to offer more holistic benefits.
  • Their versatility: CBD oil is generally more versatile than cream. Due to being orally ingested, you can use the oil to create your own CBD infusions. We would not recommend adding CBD cream to your food. It wouldn’t taste great!

Hopefully, this article helps clear up the differences between CBD oil and cream for you. Which form of CBD is right for you depends on your health issue and personal preference. Do a little research and then try a few different options to find what works best.
