Early Life of Rajiv Gandhi

Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister of India from 1984 until his assassination in 1991. He was a central figure in the Indian National Congress party and is considered to be the main architect of the economic liberalization of India in the early 1990s. Rajiv Gandhi was also the youngest Prime Minister of India, taking office at the age of 40. Rajiv Gandhi was born in 1944 in Bombay, into the politically prominent Nehru-Gandhi family. His father, Feroze Gandhi, was a leading Congress politician and his grandfather, Jawaharlal Nehru, was India's first Prime Minister. Rajiv Gandhi was educated at the Doon School and then at Cambridge University, where he studied engineering.

Rajiv Gandhi entered politics after the death of his mother, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, in 1984. He was elected to the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian parliament, from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. He became Prime Minister after his mother's assassination and was sworn in on 31 October 1984.

Rajiv Gandhi's dream for India was to make it a modern and prosperous nation that would be an exemplar for the rest of the world. . He initiated a number of economic and social reforms, including the liberalization of the Indian economy. He also worked to improve relations with Pakistan and to resolve the conflict in Kashmir. Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by a Tamil Tiger suicide bomber in 1991, while campaigning for the upcoming general elections.

He believed that India could lead the way in terms of economic and social development, and he worked tirelessly to bring about this vision. He strived to modernize and industrialize the country so that it could compete with developed nations. He also wanted to improve the standard of living of the people and reduce poverty and inequality.

The Rajiv Gandhi Foundation was set up in 1991 by the late Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi, with the aim of promoting rural development and empowering the people of India. The Foundation works towards this through various programmes and projects in the areas of health, education, environment, women empowerment, and community development.
