  • A hard disc partition is a place on a hard drive that can be used for storage. Most operating systems allow users to partition a hard disc into numerous partitions, thereby dividing a single physical hard disc into multiple logical hard discs.
  • A user may choose to partition a hard disc into many partitions in order to better manage his data. On Microsoft Windows PCs, it's usual to have the operating system and applications on one partition and user data on another. When an issue with Microsoft Windows arises, the OS partition can be entirely formatted and reinstalled while the data partition remains unaffected.
