  • Because they offer specifics about a data series or individual data points, data labels make a chart easier to understand. Without the data labels, it would be impossible to tell that coffee accounted for 38% of total sales in the pie chart below. You can add labels to one series, all series (the entire chart), or one data point, depending on what you wish to highlight on the chart.
  • Select a data series or a graph. After clicking the series, click the data point you want to label.
  • Click Add Chart Element Chart Elements button > Data Labels in the upper right corner, next to the chart.
  • Click the arrow and select an option to alter the location.
  • Click Data Callout if you want to present your data label inside a text bubble form.
  • You can move data labels inside the data points or even outside the chart to make them simpler to read. To move a data label, simply drag it to the desired spot.
  • If the labels appear to be excessively cluttered on your chart, you may delete any or all of them by clicking the data labels and then pressing Delete.
