- If you have repetitive chores in Microsoft Excel, you can record a macro to automate those operations. A macro is a single operation or a sequence of activities that you can repeat as often as you wish. You're recording your mouse clicks and keystrokes when you make a macro. You can alter a macro after you've created it to make minor adjustments to how it operates.
- The Developer tab, which is hidden by default, contains macros and VBA tools, therefore the first step is to enable it. See the Show the Developer tab for further details.
- Make a macro. Click Record Macro in the Developer tab's Code group.
- Optionally, in the Macro name box, type a name for the macro, a shortcut key in the Shortcut key box, and a description in the Description box, then click OK to begin recording.
- Carry out the tasks you want to automate, such as typing boilerplate text or filling in a data column.
- Click Stop Recording on the Developer tab.
