It was first held in 1988 as the Youth World Cup and was not held again until 1998. Since then, the World Cup has been staged as a biennial tournament, organized by theInternational Cricket Council (ICC). The tournament's original edition featured just eight teams, but each following edition has included sixteen teams. India has won the World Cup five times, Australia three times, Pakistan twice, and Bangladesh, England, South Africa, and the West Indies one apiece. Other teams that have advanced to the event finals include New Zealand and Sri Lanka. After beating England, India is the current champion.
