The National Mission for Clean Ganga has selected G Ashok Kumar as its Director-General.
G Asok Kumar, Secretary in the Ministry of Jal Shakti, has been named the new
Director-General of the
National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) in the Ministry of Jal Shakti. He replaced
Rajiv Ranjan Mishra as Director-General. Kumar is commonly known as 'India's Rain Man' for his outstanding efforts in rainwater collection as part of the 'Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain' initiative.
The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) was established as a corporation under the Societies Registration Act 1860 on August 12, 2011. It acted as the operational arm of the
National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA), which was constituted by the stipulations of the 1986
Environment (Protection) Act (EPA). The NGRBA was dissolved on October 7, 2016, as a result of the formation of the
National Council for River Ganga Rejuvenation, Protection, and
Management.
