The Academy Awards, often famous as the Oscars, are cinema industry prizes presented for artistic and technical accomplishment. Many see them as the most important and meaningful awards in the worldwide entertainment industry. Each year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) gives the Oscars as international recognition of excellence in cinematic accomplishments as assessed by the Academy's voting membership. The winners of each category get a copy of a golden statuette as a reward, technically called the 'Academy Award of Merit,' but more commonly recognized as the 'Oscar.'
