A hard reset, also known as a master reset or
factory reset, wipes all data from a device's storage and resets it to factory defaults. Before you attempt this reset, try to backup your device by connecting it to a computer. While there's no certainty that this procedure will restore your phone's functionality, it's worth a go. Here's how to perform a hard reset.
To begin, make sure your device is switched off. Assuming it's already turned off (because you're having trouble turning it on), simply follow these steps:
- For around 10 seconds, press and hold the Power and Volume Up buttons at the same time.
- When the Mi logo shows, release the Power button.
- Release the Volume Up button when the Recovery Mode screen shows.
- Use the Volume Down key to select Wipe & Reset from the Recovery Mode menu, then hit the Power key to confirm your choice.
- Select Wipe All Data with the Volume Down key, then confirm with the Power key.
- Select Yes with the Volume Down key, then confirm with the Power key.
