Chrome Browseris a cross-platform web browser that was created by the company Google. Built with freeware features from Apple Kit and Firefox & internet explorer, it was first released in 2008 for Microsoft Windows. It was later converted to Linux, macOS, iOS, and Android, and is now the default browser on all of these platforms. The browser is also a key element of Chrome OS, acting as a foundation for web apps.
Chrome's source code is mostly taken from Open-sourced Chromium software system, although it is distributed as commercial freeware. The initial rendering engine was WebKit, but Google forked it to develop the Blink engine. Except for iOS, all Chrome variations currently use Blink.
According to StatCounter, Chrome has a 68 percent global browser market share as of October 2021, up from 72.38 percent in November 2018. Chrome is the most popular browser on tablets, having surpassed Safari, and is also the most popular on smartphones, with 65 percent across all platforms combined.
Google has expanded the 'Chrome' brand name to include other products such as Chrome OS, Chromecast, Chromebook, Chromebit, Chromebox, and Chromebase as a result of its popularity. Google Chrome has a minimalistic graphical interface, and its design concepts have since been adopted by other browsers. For example, Chrome's Omnibox or Omnibar, which combines the address and search bars, is known for its high browser performance.
Users may synchronize their bookmarks, history, and preferences across all devices that have Chrome installed by sending and receiving information through a Gmail Account, which then refreshes all Chrome instances that are logged in. This can be verified using either Google passwords or a sync passcode.
