You may enable the automatic backup function for your chats and set the frequency to daily, weekly, or monthly to save a copy of your chat history on Google Drive. To restore a Google Drive backup properly, you must use the same phone number and Google Account that you used to create the backup.
To restore your backup, follow these steps:
- Make sure your new Android device is connected to the Google Accountwhere your backup is stored.
- After you've installed and opened WhatsApp, you'll need to authenticate your phone number.
- When prompted, tap RESTORE to restore your Google Drive chats and media.
- Tap NEXT when the repair process is finished. Once a startup is complete, your chats will be visible.
- After your chats have been restored, WhatsApp will proceed to restore your media files.
WhatsApp will automatically restore from your local backup file if you install WhatsApp without any prior Google Drive backups.
Using a local backup, restore your data:
If you want to use a local backup, you'll need to transfer the data to the phone using a computer, file explorer, or SD Card. To restore your backup, follow these steps:

- To restore your chats and media from a local backup, tap RESTORE when prompted.
