Who was the first woman chief justice of the Chennai High Court?


The first woman Chief Justice of the Madras High Court is Kanta Kumari Bhatnagar. who was appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Madras in June 1992. She also Served in the High Court of Rajasthan for several years. She died at the age of 81 during the service at Rajasthan.

Life’s overview
Kanta Kumari Bhatnagar was born in 1930. She was a prominent Judge and an activist in India. After becoming the first woman chief justice of the Madras High Court she also became the first chairperson in the Rajasthan Human Rights Commission. And later on, presided by Indira Banerji. She worked in the Madras High Court as a prominent judge. And, held that period for almost 5 months. She joined the Rajasthan in 2000. She died at the age of 81 on 13 august 2011 in Udaipur after having a heart attack.

This High court is the second oldest High Court of India, it was established during the period of the British Parliament in 1862. The present building is inaugurated on 18 July 1892. And, the current acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court is Munishwar Nath Bhandari.
